Manuscript Review

A manuscript review is an evaluation of your novel’s overall structure, plot, characterization, dialogue, pacing, and writing style. This service is ideal for authors seeking professional feedback during the early drafting and revision stages.

Includes
  • A comprehensive read-through of your full manuscript.

  • Feedback on the strengths and weaknesses of your story’s core elements, including character arcs, narrative flow, tension, and emotional resonance.

  • Feedback on enhancing descriptive passages, dialogue, and overall writing quality.

  • Identification of areas that work well and those that require further development or clarification.

 

A manuscript review does not involve line editing, copyediting, or proofreading. These detailed editing phases come later, once the broader story issues have been addressed.

Deliverables
  • A 30-minute video/phone consultation prior to the review in which we talk about specifics areas you want addressed or nuances of your story that you want to share.

  • An editorial letter that includes an overall assessment and my suggestions for potential revisions addressing the main story elements.

  • Annotations of the manuscript file with queries and high-level comments if/where needed.

  • A 30-minute video/phone consultation after the review to discuss feedback and answer questions.

 

The editorial letter and annotations will pinpoint your manuscript’s strongest and weakest areas while offering constructive guidance to elevate your storytelling. This allows you to implement revisions (if you so choose) before proceeding to additional editing stages.

 

The intent of the review it so provide initial insight to help shape your story into its best version. It does not guarantee agent acceptance, publication, or commercial success.

Cost
  • $250 for a manuscript up to 100,000 words.

  • $300 for a manuscript between 100,000 and 125,000 words.

 

If your manuscript is a short story or children’s book, or if it exceeds 125,000 words, please contact me and we can discuss pricing options.

 

Should we decide to work together on the next editing phase, the cost of your manuscript review will be credited toward that service.

Timeframe
  • An average of three weeks for manuscripts up to 100,000 words.

  • An average of four weeks for manuscripts between 100,000 and 125,000 words.

 

If you have a specific deadline or need special consideration, please let me know. Rush projects may result in additional cost.
