Proofreading
Proofreading is the last step in the editing process, focusing on catching any remaining mechanical errors in your project before publication or distribution. While copyediting ensures substantive improvements to clarity, structure, and language, proofreading provides that final, meticulous polish.
Includes
-
Correcting typos, spelling mistakes, and incorrect word usage.
-
Checking for consistent formatting of headings, fonts, etc.
-
Ensuring consistent application of style guide rules.
-
Fixing grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement.
-
Verifying consistency in numbers, dates, names, etc.
Proofreading catches those final, pesky errors, giving your work a professional polish before delivery.
This stage of editing does not include rewriting or restructuring sentences/paragraphs; fact-checking or in-depth research; adjusting writing style, voice, or tone; or providing feedback on higher-level content issues.

Cost
My standard proofreading rate: $.010 to $.020 USD per word. The final cost for proofreading is determined by several key factors, including the complexity of the material, the document’s condition upon receipt, any supplementary requirements like working with specific style guides, the turnaround time needed, and the overall scope of the project in terms of word count or page length. After our initial discussion about your project, I will provide a detailed estimate that accounts for its unique proofreading needs. This transparent approach ensures you receive a fair and appropriate quote that reflects the level of effort required to deliver a flawlessly polished, error-free final product meeting the highest standards of quality control.
Remember, if you’ve invested previously in a manuscript review, that cost will be credited toward your copyediting service.
Timeframe
The typical turnaround time is generally three to four weeks, depending on the length and condition of the manuscript.
I aim to work efficiently while still allowing enough time for the meticulous attention to detail that your manuscript deserves. My goal is to return your polished, error-free manuscript within the quoted timeframe without sacrificing quality. If you have a specific deadline or need special consideration, please let me know.
